The Relationship Age

Pay attention. We are coming to the end of the Information Age and have now entered the Age of Relationships. The signs are everywhere. It permeates every industry. It is part of the globalization of everything from business to governments to resources to weather to our very survival. The younger generations were raised with collaboration and that sense of being interconnected. Relationships give you motivation, inspiration, ideas, and encouragement. Yet, in many industries, including the construction industry, this is something we have yet to embrace. Perhaps it is because of the technical nature of the industry. Perhaps it is because of the typical emotional intelligence profile of the people in the industry. Empirically, relationships are not our best thing. Every single group I have ever worked with over the past 12 years have the same profile. The three lowest scores on the EQi are ALWAYS emotional self-awareness, empathy, and interpersonal relationships. The three highest scores are ALWAYS assertiveness, independence, and self-regard. This is a recipe for relationship disaster. No wonder it's such a hard business.

It's time that we tackle these tough people issues and embrace these collaborative concepts. Focusing on relationships is no longer touchy-feely. Neuroscience is verifying many of these concepts of connection from a physiological standpoint. We all have mirror neurons in our brains that mirror the emotions of the person sitting across from us. They light up and connect us together whether we are aware of it or not. We can no longer ignore these interpersonal connections.

In South Africa, they have a philosophy called Ubuntu. It is a sense of being connected to everyone else on the planet. When two people greet each other, the first person says, "I see you." The second person responds by saying, "I am here." There is real significance in that exchange. Without the acknowledgement from the first person, the second person doesn't even exist. Imagine the power of that if you walked down the hallway and was pre-occupied with something and didn't greet the other person. What you would be saying is that they don't exist. I believe that this philosophy prevented South Africa from devolving into a bloody civil war after apartheid ended. The black South Africans merely moved on and embraced the end of apartheid without retribution, without punishing the whites. It is because they feel so interconnected. They believe that if they harm someone else, they are harming themselves.

Can we move toward this sense of being connected? Can we embrace this new way of collaborating? Can we change the industry for the better by focusing on people and relationships? Time will tell. As Ben Franklin said, "We must hang together or we shall surely hang separately."

The True Love

Sometimes I wonder, why do people associate the feelings with self respect? Why we are supposed to fall only for those who also fall for us? The feeling of love has nothin to do with give or take. Though, being a humanbeing, we always expect something form those people poeople in return, to whom we give all of our sentiments but we should keep it in mind that it can never give us the right to own them. The thing which I have observed that you can not make someone fall for u. It is totally an automatic process. If anyone does not love you, they "cannot" love you ever, no matter how hard you try to make them fall for you. Its all invain. But neither it can finish our feelings for them. So no matter what, our ultimate approach should be to make "them" happy, no matter with whom. If they're happy without us, let them be. This is what we call "The True Love"

The true love does not need to be romantic neither or extra sentimental, it just should be in the form of care, which can make the other person feel special and make them realize that how much you do for them and how much you need them. The true love does not mean to lock someone in your prison and make them to follow your way and snatch their independence, Its all about freedom, care, and sensibility because miracles also happen. Starting over again!

Break up is a bad word.

Emotional trauma, self doubt, pain and anger, low self esteem.... are a part of a break up. Well, happens to everyone. The one you gave everything to decided to ditch you and walk away. So why bother? It's time to start afresh with a twist of happiness. You deserve it because you are an awesome person. Steps you can follow to feel better:

1. Think about the break up. Think about the guy. Think about all the shit he gave you. Now, do you think its worth calling him, texting him, etc? He doesn't even deserve your ultra nice treatment. STOP BEING NICE. STOP CALLING HIM AND KEEPING IN TOUCH. Its a waste of time.

2. Now that you can't call him and you need to keep yourself busy start doing something.This may include - talking to a friend, watching tv shows, movies, reading, anything.

3. Get a new hobby! It may something you've never thought of doing before. Give it a shot! Try something different and it may surprise you that you love doing it. Basically give your love to something else.

4. Exercise. Skip the chocolates and pastries! Work out. It'll help you gain confidence and feel good about yourself.

5. Get yourself the best and sexiest clothes and shoes. Now put on some make up, call your girlfriends and go out on an all girls day out. Party a lot, flirt and smile. Talk about cute guys. Your guy was a jerk. :D There are sooooooooo many hotter and cuter guys.

6. These are just a few things. If you're the introvert then start writing a diary, read your books, catch up on the latest editions of your favourite magazine. Basically give yourself an opportunity to do things that you haven't done. Discover yourself!

7. Take a bubble bath. Get a spa appointment. Get yourself a manicure and pedicure. Look hot :)

8. Music. And I mean not the LOVE songs. The party songs. Dance songs, motivating songs, trance, house, jazz anything. Ditch the meaningful love songs that you and your love always listened to.

9. Gifts and cards to be kept aside. You dont need them. It's over and you're glad its over.

10. Spend time with people who are positive and happy in life. You need to maintain a positive attitude.

11. Start talking to someone who understands you. Both of you can make a list of all the things you want to do and go do it! You must've always wanted to go and have lunch at a particualr place but haven't gotten the chance yet. So go do it.

12. It's your life. Live it when you have it! If the thought of suiciding EVER came to your mind. Visit a psychiatrist or counsellor. You need help. A guy or girl cannot determine whether you live or not.

13. Give it time. You need to be patient! Time heals all wounds.
